We call him Dyl Pickle, along with tons of other nick names. Or, maybe thats just me that has a thousand different nicknames for him. I pretty much have at least one nickname for everyone I know. It’s my thing. Anyway, his name is Dylan and he is my cute little nephew. I took these pictures of him about a month ago while I was watching him. We had some “craft” time and made some slap bracelets for his mom (my sister, Mindy). I can’t believe he is nine years old and has never heard of a slap bracelet!
I decided to share these pictures of Dylan, well first of all because he is so freakin’ cute, but also because these pictures remind me to appreciate the small things in life. They say that a pictures says a thousand words, or that you can tell a story through photographs…I totally agree with this statement, but sometimes I’m not even aware of the story that I am capturing until after looking through the images a second or third time. Looking through these pictures now, I realize that on the day that I took these pictures it was just another day to me. But, now I realize how happy and blessed I am to be able to share some craft time with my nephew. Happy that he can see and create things. You see, when Dylan was a baby, we (my sister, the rest of my family, and I) found out that Dylan had optic nerve hypoplasia. In a nutshell, this means that his optic nerve did not develop all the way and he is “legally blind”. When we first found out, we of course did not know how much he would be able to see or if he would be able to see at all. Well, thankfully he can see a lot more than we ever dreamed of. It’s still hard to determine exactly how much he can see, but I am so happy that he can see. Even if it is just a little bit.
I love these pictures I took of him. He is so adorable and is one of the sweetest little boys ever. He makes my heart smile
